Ok. Let me start this out saying I am a huge fan of Apple. Most of you know this. I just love stuff that makes my life easier to work with. One of these things is the App Store for Mac. Find an App you like, hit the buy button (There are lots of Free Ones), and… Presto, The App Store downloads it and installs it for you! I like it!
Here is a problem I encountered today whilst talking with one of IT buddies:
I needed an FTP App to upload some content to my website. Fine. App Store, here I come!
Here’s one that I have been using for several years:
CyberDuck
Wow. It’s $23.99. Not that bad, when I think about it….
Wait. Isn’t CyberDuck Open Source???
Let look at their website.
Uh. We can download it for free off the web. Yes. Legally. I will say that CyberDuck does accept donations on their site…. and apparently on the App Store.
Lesson learned. Check the website of the App before downloading it.

Off topic; CyberDuck is a great App, and I would probably donate if I weren’t trying to keep a tighter grasp on my finances.

Cyberduck is my ftp app of choise for the Mac. It does pretty much everything including connect to cloud storage at Amazon S3. Definitely worth a donation.
Having said that, I hope the App Store fee for otherwise free software doesn’t become a trend.
